The Montrose Recreation Center offers monthly and annual passes for individuals and families so you can go as much as you want. This recreation center in Montrose has been rated as one of the best recreation centers on the western slope of Colorado. It offers many sports activities such as a climbing wall, lap and leisure pools, racquetball, three gymnasium courts, a track, and a full fitness center. There are also other areas such as a game room, party rooms, an indoor playground, and a kid watch program. With all these different areas and the large indoor space, even if there are a lot of people, there is always something to do with plenty of room for everyone!

You can go in on your own time and have fun painting. They also have many adult’s and kid’s classes available. They rotate their inventory so there are always fresh, new pieces available. If you’re painting pottery, you can take as much time as you need and they’ll fire the pieces in their kiln when you’re ready. They can even ship your finished pieces to you!

Ute Indian Museum in Montrose, Colorado

Encompassing both indoor and outdoor learning spaces, the Ute Indian Museum offers a fun educational experience where your kids can learn about the history of the Montrose area and the people that first called the San Juan Mountains and the surrounding area their home. The museum was originally built near the land of Chief Ouray, a leader of the Uncompahgre tribe and his wife Chipeta. The museum includes the grave where Chipeta was buried after her death and a native plant garden. A gift shop in the museum includes authentic Native American turquoise, silver jewelry, beadwork, Ute pottery, and various children’s gifts and books.
